What is collaborative practice?

Separation can be devastating for the whole family. How you handle your separation or divorce impacts how well you and your family cope now and in the future.

Collaborative practice provides a positive, respectful and supportive alternative dispute resolution process. It focuses on resolving differences whilst avoiding the expensive and time consuming litigious route.

The collaborative process is all about resolving differences with dignity, respect and privacy. Whether you are married or in a de facto relationship, the process is used to get resolution on issues like:
• Helping you and your children cope with change
• Custody of children and parenting arrangements
• Fairly dividing your property and other assets
• Short and long-term financial support

How is collaborative practice different?

Our collaborative process differs from conventional mediation or legal practices for resolving family separation and divorce.  For example:
• Your differences are settled with respect, dignity and privacy
• You both decide what is best for you and your children by working together with your collaborative team
• You are supported by a multi-disciplinary team who ensure your agreement is fair for you, your former partner and your children

The collaborative process

Importantly, collaborative practice starts with you identifying the issues that are important to you. Through face-to-face meetings, we will coordinate a team of professionals (lawyers, accountants, financial planners, mediators, psychologists and counsellors as required) to provide advice and support to and facilitate an appropriate agreement.
